Home-Start Garioch Awarded The Kings Award for Voluntary Service
Lord-Lieutenant Sandy Manson was delighted to present the King’s Award for Voluntary Service to Home-Start Garioch, the wonderful charity which has been supporting local families in Aberdeenshire for 29 years. The KAVS is the highest award to be received by a local voluntary group and is equivalent to an MBE. The Lord-Lieutenant made the formal presentation of the award to the charity’s dedicated manager, Mhairi Philip, who works closely with the twelve trustees and 89 volunteers to ensure that the charity’s services reach those in need. Mhairi spoke of the huge honour and privilege of receiving the King’s Award, and focused especially on the generosity of the charity’s volunteers - very much the backbone of Home-Start Garioch, whose practical and emotional support through challenging times helps to bring about change for families, improving outcomes for the children. The charity recognises that the early years make the biggest impact and strives to make those years count by working closely with families to give them the support they need in a unique service. The staff, trustees and volunteers celebrated the occasion with a very special tea party at their base in Inverurie.
