Parents have a key role in creating a secure childhood for their children.  It’s just that sometimes they may need a bit of help – YOUR help.

Volunteers join us for many reasons, but all share the same motivation – the desire to help others.

As a volunteer, what would I actually do?

Usually you visit a family in their own home for 2-3 hours per week.  The support offered is flexible and responds to the needs of the individual family.  Some might need someone to talk to and others may need for example, help in getting to appointments, playing with the children or finding out about local services.

Is there any training involved?

All volunteers attend a Preparation Course which runs over a number of sessions.  We give high priority to ongoing training and support for volunteers and offer support and supervision sessions every 8 weeks.

Volunteers are offered ongoing training and support, including opportunities to take part in activities with specialist speakers and services, as well as informal social gatherings

All volunteers must also undergo an enhanced PVG check and provide the names of two suitable referees.

Do I have to have any particular qualifications?

No special qualifications are necessary to become a Home-Start volunteer, volunteers are usually parents or grandparents with an interest in, and experience of, young children and family life. We welcome volunteers from all sections of the community.

Talking and listening can be empowering for families, helping them to overcome their difficult situations by realising their potential and building confidence.

Are there any other ways to get involved?

We are always interested in meeting people who might consider joining our fundraising group or becoming a Trustee on the Board. Home-Start Garioch is a charity Limited by Guarantee and is governed by a committed Board of Trustees.
